Admirals sign local forward for the upcoming hockey season

Carter Wiley signed with the Amherstburg Admirals on Canada Day.

An Amherstburg hockey player has signed to play for his hometown Jr. C hockey team.

Carter Wiley spent part of his Canada Day signing with the Amherstburg Admirals, the same franchise his brother Holden played for last year. With Holden planning to play the 2026-27 hockey season with the LaSalle Vipers Jr. B team, his younger brother is planning to crack to the Admirals’ lineup.

“It’s kind of a shock to me,” he said, after he signed with the team. “Signing in front of everyone is a lot to take in.”

The signing took place under the pavilion at Toddy Jones Park in Amherstburg July 1, not long before members of the Admirals participated in field hockey games with local children. 

Wiley has been following the Admirals since he was young, with his dad B.J. pointing out he was a “flag boy” for the team when he was five-years-old. A “flag boy” carries a team flag on the ice as part of the warmups prior to a game.

Stating he plays right wing, Wiley said qualities of his game including blocking shots and being a gritty player. He says he does what he can for the good of the hockey team.

Wiley thanked his parents, his family and friends for their support during his hockey career. He played last season with the Lake Erie North Star’s U16 team.

Admirals general manager Andrew Sykes said they like everything about Wiley. He pointed out Holden was on the team last year so the club knows Carter comes from a good family. The Admirals believe they are getting something special in Wiley and that he is a high character player with a good future.

In a statement posted to the team’s Instagram page, Sykes added: “Carter is a high-IQ, high-character player who instantly boosts the chemistry and culture of our team. He is a very smart hockey player who brings confidence, fearless grit, and competitiveness to his shifts. Set to be our youngest player, Carter has already gained the respect of his teammates through his feisty play at our recent Spring Camp, as well as demonstrating a completely team-driven attitude.”
