Boys soccer team in tough vs L’Essor - girls pick up win in Leamington

It was a week of mixed results for the boys and girls soccer teams at North Star High School.

The Wolves boys team opened the week last Tuesday (April 21) at the Libro Centre in Amherstburg against the visiting L’Essor Aigles. It was a tough afternoon for the North Star squad, as they ended up on the short end of an 11-0 final score.

L’Essor got off to a fast start and North Star was unable to gain much momentum after that and lost to the undefeated L’Essor team.

“Obviously, they are a fantastic team,” said Wolves captain Max Ricciuti. “They are rated highly for a reason.”

Ricciuti said it is important for the Wolves to play hard no matter the score and believes they tried to do that against the Aigles.

“We wanted to play with heart and fight against them,” said Ricciuti.

The Wolves dropped to 0-4 thanks to the loss, but Ricciuti said he and his teammates want to keep putting out strong efforts to close out the season. He said they were able to move the ball somewhat during L’Essor and they need to continue working on their positional play.

“We’re looking for our first win,” he said. “That’s all we can ask for.”

The regular season finished up for the Wolves this past Tuesday (April 29) with a road game in Belle River.

In girls soccer action, the Wolves squared their 2026 WECSSAA record at 2-2-1 thanks to a 2-1 victory on the road against the Leamington Lions. It was the second consecutive victory for the North Star girls team.

Eden Pare and Gemma Goldman scored for the Wolves while Tamara McLean scored for the Lions.

The girls team returns to Leamington for their regular season finale May 4, in a game that was rescheduled from earlier in the year. This time, the Wolves will battle the Cardinal Carter Cougars in a 4 p.m. game.
