Talent of local potters were on display at The Gibson Gallery for the last few weeks and a reception was held last weekend to wrap up the exhibit.
“Centred,” an exhibit of Windsor-Essex County pottery exhibition, was the subject of a closing reception July 6.
Potters included Alyson Wellman, Amy Farkas, Christine Rettig, Dayna Wagner, Diane O'Brien, Jane Marie Rosete, Jen Burton Liang, Laura Becker, Lisa Gabriele, Gisele Bick, Pauline Van Beek, Maddie Sawatzky, M.N. Berthiaume, Sandra De Vries, Sharlene Laros, Shawna Wilson, Tara Jones, Tricia Leach and Trish MacDonald.
Van Beek said she was approached by gallery board member Bonnie Deslippe about the group doing an exhibit and when Van Beek put it to them, the reaction was in favour.
“We got an overwhelming response that they wanted to do it,” said Van Beek.
Potters worked on their projects for about one year, she added, and it was opened up to those who enjoy pottery around Windsor-Essex County.
Stating it was a “very diverse” selection of pottery, Van Beek added levels of experience ranged from 30 years to two years. It is an “ad hoc” group of potters as they communicate through social media with occasional meetings.
“We all know each other through different events and different shows,” she said.
It was one of their first shows as a group, Van Beek added, and that she was pleased with how it turned out as the artists were able to get additional exposure.
“I think it looked great. I'm glad we could do it,” she said. “It's been really good for the group.”

In all, Van Beek estimated there were 50-60 pieces of pottery.
“I just hope everyone who saw this exhibit enjoyed it.”
The new exhibit is “Faces,” a collection of works from Amherstburg artist Marshall White. It opened this past Monday and runs through July 27. A “meet the artist” closing exhibit will be held July 27 at the gallery from 1-3 p.m.
The Gibson Gallery is located at 140 Richmond St. in Amherstburg. Their summer hours are daily from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
