It was wonderful to see all the donations coming in to places like the Amherstburg Food and Fellowship Mission, Amherstburg Community Services (ACS), the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and other groups within Amherstburg and Windsor-Essex County during the Christmas season.
I saw and photographed many of the donations, but I’m sure there are many others that were made quietly without my presence.
People need help around the holidays and most people want others to have a great Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Hanukkah or simply to have the support for however a person celebrates.
The donations and kindness shown is always appreciated. My point is the need often continues throughout the year.
While many people are thrilled for the help around the holidays, there are those who need the help once January, February and beyond hit.
The need doesn’t go away once the Christmas tree comes down and the holiday decorations are put away.
I can’t speak for any of these organizations, but I’m sure they would be pleased with receiving additional donations throughout the year. Keeping the shelves full and having additional resources like gift cards etc. in order to assist those in need in our community are things that are likely welcome for those who volunteer for some of these excellent organizations in our community.
At the end of the day, all help is good help and it is useful at any time of year.

Thanks to the many of you that read last week’s Year in Review. It takes a lot of time and effort to prepare, and even then, some things have to be omitted. Not everything can make the final cut, as space is limited and I just can’t get everything in.
Every year, my New Year’s resolution is to start working on Year in Review much earlier in the year.
I am going to try again this year on doing it monthly, as usually it’s much later in the year when I finally say to myself “I better start working on the Year in Review.”Other work tends to get in the way and I do try to relax here and there, but I still want to do a better job of staying on top of this.
It takes weeks to do, so my goal is to budget my time a bit better.

Speaking of New Year’s, we’re two weeks into 2026 but we still want to wish everyone in Amherstburg and in surrounding communities the best for this year.
The River Town Times had tremendous support in our 30th anniversary year and while we remain grateful for that, we are planning on earning the same level of support this year and beyond.
So, once again, thank you very much and we look forward to serving our advertisers and readers now and into the future.
