Fort Malden Medieval Faire returning June 13-14

The Fort Malden Medieval Faire returns to Amherstburg next month.

The second annual Renaissance faire comes to the grounds of Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada.

It is being presented June 13-14 by Faires.ca.

Producer Greg Schuurman said there are a number of new events as part of this year’s two-day event.

“We’re always trying to add a few more activities and so forth,” said Schuurman. “We have a few new ones this year.”

A “Dual Inferno” is a new attraction to the Fort Malden Medieval Fair this year, with a licensed tavern also in the plans.

The Boar’s Head Tavern is planned for this year.

A number of popular attractions from last year are also in the cards to come back in 2026, including jousting, birds of prey, exhibitors, vendors and more.

“We’re adding some bleacher seats as well,” said Schuurman. “Last year, it was a little hard to see.”

Faires.ca has rented out the former General Amherst High School parking lot to address parking issue for those that come out.

“It’s going to be a bigger event than last year,” said Schuurman.

The Fort Malden Medieval Fair drew just under 4,000 people in 2025, something Schuurman said was a decent number for a new festival.

By comparison, an Ottawa Renaissance festival had 6,000 pre-sold tickets with 10,000 people expected.

The reason for coming to Amherstburg was Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada itself.

“We always thought this would be cool there,” said Schuurman.

Schuurman added they are doing another faire at a similar site, noting a new faire is being established in Kingston at Fort Henry.

“(Amherstburg) gave us the inspiration for that,” he said.

Pre-sale tickets are $25 and available at www.faires.ca, where the schedule and list of coming attractions can be found as well.

The Fort Malden Medieval Faire will occur rain or shine, though Schuurman said they are hopeful for good weather that weekend.

“It’s still a lot of fun, even in the rain,” he said.
