The North Star Wolves junior girls basketball team got off to a fast start against Riverside but had to hang on for the 33-28 win.

The Wolves led 12-0 after one quarter but Riverside clawed back to make it a 19-16 North Star game at halftime. It was 26-24 for the Wolves after three quarters and North Star re-expanded their lead to five points when the final buzzer went Oct. 27.

“I think it was a really good game since it was the first one we had in a while,” said Hailey King.

Olivia Petro said the Wolves had good communication on the court, especially in the second half. King agreed and said they gelled well during the game.

Coach Nora Newhook said they played well and showed good time management towards the end of the game. She said Riverside got back in the game by “making a lot of good shots” with North Star missing some during stretches of the game. Petro, who had nine points, said they realize what they needed to focus on and got the job done.

The Wolves were in Kingsville yesterday where, like the senior girls, they played Erie Migration. They are at home today (Nov. 4) for a 4:30 p.m. game versus Tecumseh Vista Academy in their regular season finale.
