Mixed results on the diamond for U12 Cardinals Rep team

The Amherstburg Cardinals U12 Rep baseball team had a week of mixed results last week.

The Cardinals began the week with a 13-7 loss on their home field in Malden Centre.

The U12’s hosted the LaSalle Turtle Club U13 Selects last Thursday evening (Aug. 20) and the game ended via the mercy rule when the Titans took a six-run lead. The coaching staff believed they have seen better efforts from their young team.

“Our team did not show up to play,” said head coach Andrew Brush. “They didn’t think about baseball tonight. They didn’t listen.”

After some recent wins, the Aug. 20 game at Malden Centre Park was disappointing to the team.

“They definitely didn’t play up to our standards,” said Brush.

The U12 Cardinals were without some key players in the loss to LaSalle Turtle Club and had some of the players that were there playing out of position. Brush said the team made too many errors, didn’t hit well and lacked intensity, though credited LaSalle Turtle Club for making nice plays when Amherstburg tried to get some momentum going.

Fortunes improved for the U12 team Friday night in Kingsville. The Cardinals picked up their fifth win of the season as they knocked off the Kingsville Knights U12 team by a 9-5 final score.

The Cardinals hosted the LaSalle Titans 12U green team last night (Aug. 25) at Malden Centre Park, after this issue of the River Town Times went to press. The next game for the U12 team is against the Amherstburg Cardinals U11 team this Friday at 6 p.m. at Malden Centre Park.
