More accessible parking needed in the downtown core - says resident

Parking in the Dalhousie St./Richmond St. and surrounding area is a real problem for many persons who have walking issues. 

It does not take a brilliant mind to figure out, as the population is getting older, requiring accessible options, that more “designated parking spots” are needed in the area. Additional spots designated to accommodate these persons would solve a lot of issues and encourage the “able bodied persons” to get their “steps” in by walking to this area from public parking spots. 

I believe there are only two or three spots available at this time. 

My friend who needs these spots is often made to drive around and around, only to give up and go home, without doing her banking and or shopping she would like to do in the area. 

I do realize many “caregivers” could selfishly use these spots, although the permit holder is not with them, so a parking officer would be needed to police the situations. These could be in the form of students, retirees, etc.

Unfortunately, I see many using these spots to “run in” etc., so perhaps a fine or two could help alleviate this impulse. 

So let’s increase the number of available parking spots to at least three on both sides of Richmond St., with another three on Dalhousie St.
