The North Star Wolves girls slo-pitch team played twice last week and split the two games.
The Wolves were scheduled to play three times but one game ended up being rained out. Of the games they played, they won their first and lost their second.
The first game of the week was a 6-3 win over the Cardinal Carter Cougars played May 4 at the Malden Centre Park diamonds. That win, which was referenced in last week’s edition of the River Town Times, was the Wolves third victory of the regular season.
“We played pretty good,” said Cassidy Carmack of the Wolves. “We made some good catches.”
Carmack pitched during the game against the Cougars and the weather presented some challenges.
“It was pretty windy,” she said. “I had to move up so it wouldn’t go wide.”
The Wolves work well together, she added, and noted they are a young team this season.
“We have a lot of Grade 9’s and 10’s,” said Carmack. “We’re doing really good so far, I feel like.”
Improving their hitting is something Carmack said they would like to do.
“We tend to hit it right to (the opponents),” she said. “That’ll get batter with more practice.”
The Wolves returned to the diamond last Wednesday, May 6, for a game back in Malden Centre against the visiting Belle River Nobles. Belle River left town with a 14-11 victory, which dropped North Star’s record to three wins and four losses on the 2026 WECSSAA girls slo-pitch season.
North Star was supposed to play last Tuesday, May 5, in Leamington but that was rained out. The game against the Lions has been rescheduled for this Thursday, May 14, at 3:30 p.m. at the Leamington Kinsmen diamonds. It will be the last game of the regular season with playoffs occurring after that.
