The athletic season at North Star High School has wound down and with it came a look back on the season that was.
The school held its annual athletic awards banquet last Thursday night (June 11) at the Ciociaro Club where major award winners were recognized as were the best of the best from the individual sports.
Principal Kyle Berard said it was a gathering not just to celebrate the wins, losses and MVPs, but to pay tribute to the resilience, teamwork and spirit that “defines us as North Star Wolves.”
Berard said it is not always about the scoreboard, but high school sports teaches accountability as well as players show up for their teammates and offer their support.
Coaches and staff members were also thanked by Berard.
“We couldn’t do it without you,” he said.
Coaches take their time and energy to work with the students, and he pointed out that was appreciated. Noting he was still relatively new to the building as he only took over as principal in February, he said he noted the culture of the school being as a place where “we lift each other up” and support one another.
Parents were also thanked by Berard and other coaches throughout the night, for their efforts in supporting players and driving students to games. Athletic department head Lisa Voakes also offered numerous messages of thanks, noting the efforts of not only the staff who coach, but the occasional teachers and coaches who come in from the community.\
