The North Star Wolves girls soccer team has picked up their first victory of the season.
The Wolves’ record is now 1-2-1 on the 2026 WECSSAA “A/AA” soccer season after a 6-1 win over the Ste. Cecile Stallions last Tuesday afternoon at the Libro Centre in Amherstburg. Gemma Goldman led the way offensively for the Wolves, scoring three times with two of them being on penalty kicks.
Goldman scored once in the first half and it was 1-0 North Star after the first 40 minutes. In the second half Goldman scored two more goals, with Charlotte Szewczuk, Rayah Crawford and Aria Pare also scoring for North Star.
Ste. Cecile got its goal in the second half.
Szewczuk said it was her first goal of the season. She said they played better as a team as the game went along.
“I think the second half was a lot better than the first half,” she said.
A pep talk at halftime helped spark the Wolves and helped them work better together as a team, Szewczuk added.
The Wolves shot taking was better in the second half, Szewczuk said, and they were able to put some in the net.
“Overall, by the end of the game, we played well,” she said.
The communication and leadership on the field was good as well, stated Szewczuk.
The Wolves have two more regular season games and Szewczuk said they are going to work hard during those games.
Both remaining games are in Leamington, starting this Thursday afternoon (April 23) against the Leamington Lions. They return to Leamington May 4 for a game against the Cardinal Carter Cougars. Both games start at 4 p.m.
The North Star boys team was not in action last week and they are looking for their first win of the season this week. The boys team is in action Thursday (April 23) at 4 p.m. at Tecumseh Vista Academy, with the last game being April 28 in Belle River, also at 4 p.m.
