“On the Wall Off the Wall 3” celebrated as gallery shifts to transportation exhibit

A pair of Amherstburg artists celebrated their successful exhibit and now the gallery they were exhibited in is shifting to a celebration of their own.

“On the Wall, Off the Wall 3,” an exhibit by Stephen Gibb and Robert MacLellan, held its closing reception Sept. 27 at the Gibson Gallery. The exhibit featured the paintings of Gibb and the sculptures and charcoal work of MacLellan and had been running since Sept. 10.

The exhibit was mainly a collection of their more recent works.

“There’s no rhyme or reason for it,” said Gibb. “It’s a collection of the things we were working on.”

MacLellan said they do the exhibit every two years and it featured pieces they were creating in recent months, many of which hadn’t been shown. He pointed out a lot of his sculptures features recycled materials.

“I have the freedom to choose whatever I want,” he said.

Gibb agreed in that his works were also recent and new works that were exhibited for the first time. He said they always decide to let their exhibits come together organically and he liked what he saw in this exhibit.

“It’s always fun to see how it comes together,” said Gibb.

“I find it goes well together,” added MacLellan.

Gibb stated he is working on projects and staying busy.“There’s always something coming up,” Gibb said.

MacLellan added he is involved with the Local Collective Art Project as well, and that keeps him active. He said he is part of a bird-themed exhibit they are planning at The Missing O in October.

“It gets me out of my comfort zone a lot,” he said, of his involvement with the collective. “I like the enthusiasm.”

The Gibson Gallery is now moving on to the 130^th Anniversary Transportation Exhibition and the re-opening of the Caboose Museum. The caboose sits at the rear of the Gibson Gallery property, with the gallery being a former Michigan Central Railway Station. That exhibit runs from Oct. 1-11.

The Gibson Gallery is located at 140 Richmond St. in Amherstburg. Their current hours are Thursday-Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free but donations are accepted.
