Opinions and concerns voiced about Murray St

It has come to my attention that there are a few business owners interested in closing Murray St. from Ramsay St. to Dalhousie St. Shutting it completely down to vehicles and with limited access.
It is my understanding at the Amherstburg Economic Development Committee (EDC) meeting on January 15 at 5 p.m., could see this closure could be an agenda item or be brought up under new business. The EDC makes recommendations to council, just as it did regarding a two year extension of Open Air.
The closure of Murray St. would be dreadful and negatively impact the residents. For example, driver stress, traffic diversion and congestion, emergency vehicle access, deliveries/waste collection, business impact, accessibility issues, perception of lack of safety and vibrancy, disruption to vehicle transit, maintenance fees, inadequate supporting infrastructure, planning in equities and more.Â
Those living on neighbouring streets would have added traffic, loss of street parking, benefitting only a few business owners and added expense to the taxpayers (additional bylaw enforcement, administration to carry out the licences and more).
Start getting involved folks, e-mail council your concerns today.Â
