Resident upset with possibility of hotel development going near her home

I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the proposed hotel development in Amherstburg.
It was recently featured on the television news and everyone seems excited about the project. However, I question whether anyone would truly want this type of development in their own backyard. The residents who will be directly affected did not even receive notice until the day the story appeared on the news. In fact, the public had not even been informed of the public meeting; we only learned about it through the notice published in the River Town Times July 17.
From our perspective, it appears this project is already a done deal. Even the site plan does not appear to have been designed with the neighbouring residents in mind, as it fails to properly consider the homes that back on the proposed development.
Even the garbage containers are planned to be located behind our fences.
When my husband and I purchased our home, we did so with the understanding that the property behind us was zoned residential.
Our privacy and quiet enjoyment of our home will be significantly impacted.
As usual, it seems that influential interests will profit while ordinary homeowners bear the consequences. Our property’s value will almost certainly decrease, and we will be left to suffer the effects.
I hope those making this decision will remember that while developers and investors may benefit financially, it is the residents who ultimately pay the price through the loss of privacy, peace and the value of our homes.
