North Star’s Brennan Leal goes up for a block versus Lajeunesse last Thursday afternoon.

The North Star High School senior and junior volleyball teams were both in action against Lajeunesse last Thursday but were unable to secure a win in either match.

The senior team played Lajeunesse in the early game and lost in three straight sets. The Royals won the first set 25-12. The Wolves fought back in the second set but still lost 25-22. Lajeunesse completed the sweep with a 25-16 in the third set.

Nine of the 11 players are in Grade 12.

Trevor Paquette believed the Wolves need to focus on what they can control and not concentrate on what they can’t.

Paquette and teammate Max Ricciuti agreed they didn’t have a good mindset coming into the match.

The Wolves lost two sets to one (14-25, 14-25, 25-23) at Kennedy while Lajeunesse had already defeated Kennedy this season, so the Wolves had concerns going into their Lajeunesse match.

“I think we can play with any team in this league,” said Ricciuti.

The seniors were at home Sept. 30 against Leamington and play at L’Essor this Thursday (Oct. 2).

The junior team had a better start, as they won their first game at Kennedy last Tuesday (Sept. 23). They won 25-8, 25-19 and 25-19.

Things didn’t go as well Thursday at home versus Lajeunesse, as they lost 25-20, 25-20 and 25-16. They also hosted Leamington Tuesday and are at L’Essor Thursday.
