U12 Cardinals rep team takes on Lakeshore Whitecaps

The Amherstburg Cardinals U12 rep team was in action last Sunday afternoon at Malden Centre Park against the Lakeshore Whitecaps. Pitcher Archer Schmidt catches a fly ball on the infield (above) while Lucas Susko takes a rip at a pitch in the next inning of the game (below).

The Cardinals lost to the Lakeshore Whitecaps Sunday afternoon at Malden Centre Park with coach Andrew Brush believing the home team didn’t help their own cause in the loss.

Brush said they tied the strong Lakeshore team 15-15 a few weeks ago but didn’t play as well in the July 19 game.

“We didn’t have our best game, that’s for sure,” he said of last Sunday afternoon’s game. “Today, we made a lot of errors. Errors cause the score to inflate.”

Base running and pitching was strong for the Amherstburg U12 rep team in Sunday’s game, Brush stated, and did well at the plate.

“The boys ran the bases well and hit well,” said Brush. “The fundamentals and basics of the game got to us today.”

Brush added the U12 team is new to Amherstburg Minor Baseball this season, which means the coaching staff had to scout new players. Other teams feature players that have played together for many years while this season is the first one playing together for many of the Cardinals.

Despite that, Brush said the Cardinals are improving a lot as the season progresses.

Brush added that they have a lot of dual-sport athletes but they don’t have a lot of experience playing baseball together. Some of the players are new to the sport, he added.

“You can tell this is the first year they’ve played together,” said Brush.

The U12 Cardinals rep baseball team were in LaSalle last night but a result was not known as of press time.
