The North Star Wolves boys soccer team wrapped up an otherwise tough regular season in a positive manner.
The Wolves hosted the Walkerville Tartans last Wednesday afternoon at the Libro Centre and won 6-3. It was their first win of the year and they finished the 2025 regular season with a 1-4-1 record in WECSSAA city group division play.
Kohen Sieben led the Wolves in last Wednesday’s match with three goals. Austin Mann, Ben Wood and Max Ricciuti had the others.
The Wolves’ playoff hopes took a hit as they were trying to win by four goals with the goal differential in the standings being a factor.
They ended up winning by three goals thus had to rely on other teams for help and watched the standings to see if they could find another way into the post-season.
Team captain Jack Prieur believed he and his teammates played hard all season and improved as the year went on. They got some unlucky breaks during the season and that went against them.
“We played well and we fought hard,” said Prieur. “The boys stayed together and finished off hard.”
Head coach Gavin Blunt said they were in most games, but lapses during them proved costly this season.
“For our five or ten minutes of bad soccer each game, we got punished for it. Other teams capitalized on our mistakes,” said Blunt. “The teams are better than the scores indicate.”
North Star also battled through some injury trouble this year, Blunt added, but credited the division for having good teams in it this season.
Blunt was hoping to find some luck and see if there was a way they could get into the playoffs. Even if results didn’t work out the way North Star wanted them to, he thanked all of his players and coaches for their efforts, especially the seniors who are graduating after this school year.
