Wolves start well but end up on short end of 27-7 final score to L’Essor

The North Star Wolves football team continue to show improvement, but that improvement hasn’t resulted in any victories thus far.
The latest game was last Friday (Oct. 2) against L’Essor and despite a good start, the Wolves ended up on the short end of a 27-7 final score. It was their first home game of the season.
North Star was able to start a drive deep in the Eagles territory midway through the first quarter but were not able to capitalize. On a drive later in the quarter, they did find the end zone thanks to a 16-yard touchdown run from Grayson Wilson. After Kingston Gardin’s extra point, it was a 7-0 lead for the Wolves and their first lead of the 2026 WECSSAA season.
It turned into the Marshall Rocheleau show from there, as the L’Essor running back scored on four touchdown runs. Two of those came in the second quarter on one and nine-yard runs to make it a 14-7 halftime advantage.
After a scoreless third quarter, L’Essor tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter thanks to Rocheleau’s legs. Rocheleau scored on another nine-yard run and then on a 55-yard run later in the final quarter, though the Wolves blocked the extra point attempt on the last touchdown.
“It obviously was a tough one,” said North Star head coach Emmitt Rosati. “It didn’t go the way we wanted.”
Rosati said things started well, as their defense shut down L’Essor on their first few series and their offense scored first.
“We kind of let things get away from us,” added Rosati.
Rosati credited L’Essor for being a hard playing, physical and well-coached team who capitalized on North Star’s penalties and mental mistakes. He also believed the fast start may have gone to his young players’ heads a little bit, though he was pleased to see his players happy that they were having some success.
The Wolves will keep drilling on the fundamentals in practice and work on their depth. He noted they have young players in key positions so the coaching staff is working on teaching them and getting them as ready as possible.
North Star, now 0-3, stay at the Libro Centre for two of their next three games. They host the St. Joseph Lasers this Friday (Oct. 9) at 5:30 p.m. in Amherstburg, travel to Essex for a 7 p.m. game against the Red Raiders Oct. 16 and close out the regular season Oct. 23 with a 5:30 p.m. game at the Libro Centre against the Herman Green Griffins.
