It’s a milestone year for the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society (WECHS)

The icebreaker “Judy Lamarsh” stopped at the Canadian Coast Guard base in Amherstburg Feb. 1. According to local resident Terry Hall, who sent in two of the photos, it was originally built in Romania as an icebreaking tug for Kazakhstan, later registered in Turkmenistan, and acquired by the Canadian government in 2021 to be named for the former federal Cabinet Minister Judy Lamarsh.
