The Amherstburg U10 Cardinals returned to the diamond on June 30, hosting the Woodslee Orioles at beautiful Bill Wigle Park.
After falling behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning, the Cardinals recovered and slowly pulled away to win 14-5. Cortez McEldowney led the way with three hits, with two hits apiece from Ethan Bradacs, Cam DiPasquale, Patrick Motruk and Atticus Martin. Theo Boivin and McEldowney both pitched very well in relief.
The Cardinals then played in the annual Essex Fun Fest July 3-5. The tournament began with a game against the host Essex Yellowjackets. This was a tight ball game, with Essex pulling away late to win 9-2. Motruk, Martin and Neil Mathieson collected hits in this game, with Mathieson and Brock Abraham scoring the runs.
The second game saw the Cardinals face the Thorold A’s. This was a back and forth affair that saw the Cardinals gut out a hard fought 9-7 victory.
The offense was paced by Colton Garvey with two RBIs, Parker Anderson went 2-for-2 at the plate and Mathieson scored two runs. Ethan Bradacs picked up his second save of the year.
In the quarterfinals, the Cardinals faced the Kingsville Knights and simply ran out of gas, losing 11-1. Garvey gave a solid effort on the mound, with Mathieson scoring the lone Cardinal run.
Next up for the U10 Cardinals is the London Talons Invitational the weekend of July 10. Go to amherstburgbaseball.com for our complete rep, girls fastpitch and house league schedule. Go Cards!
