The Amherstburg Cardinals are headed to the Ancaster Spring Valley Classic-World T-ball Championship.

The Cardinals U7 teams got in some prep work this past Sunday morning as they took on Windsor South at the Malden Centre diamonds.

“It’s impressive how well they have developed. They all go through each position,” said Amherstburg coach Troy Cox.

Friday night the Cardinals will open up the 24-team event in Ancaster with a game beginning at 6 p.m. versus the North Bay Panthers. It’s a pair of games on Saturday, first up against the LaSalle Turtle Club’s Green Selects and that is followed at 4 p.m. with a game against the host Ancaster Diamondbacks.

Each team is guaranteed a minimum of three games at the 55th  annual Classic.

The diamonds at Malden Centre were busy all this past weekend with the U9 house league interlock tournament. Kingsville and Lakeshore each had two  teams with one each from Essex and Woodslee.

Amherstburg had its own separate tournament earlier.

“We had four house league teams in the league but we had our own in-house tournament,” said Amherstburg Minor Baseball Association president Sarah Anderson.
