Amherstburg Ribfest held downtown for third straight year

The Amherstburg Ribfest returned to Ramsay St. last weekend where people enjoyed the food and entertainment for three days.

The Amherstburg Ribfest returned to the downtown core Father’s Day weekend.

Three ribbers – Dinosaur Smokehouse, Ribs Royale and The Hogfather – as well as other food vendors lined the street to serve hungry patrons June 19-21. For the third consecutive year, the Ribfest was held on a blocked off Ramsay St., between Richmond St. and Murray St.

Music was provided in partnership with Musicland, with alcohol available on the back patio of the Missing O restaurant and pub.

Organizers say familiar faces as well as new faces were seen this year, with some people coming out all three days.

The Amherstburg Ribfest was presented by The Dan Gemus Real Estate Team, with Gemus stating crowds were large all three days.

“It’s been incredibly busy, probably the busiest we’ve been the last three years,” he said. “The weather hasn’t been as hot and humid. It’s all fantastic.”

Crowds were large at both lunch and dinner rushes, he said.

According to Gemus, there are no proceeds from the event as no revenue is collected from people who attend. People were allowed to come in with no admission charge, and he added feedback from the event includes people enjoying they can roam without being in a fenced-in area.

“The team does it to give back to the community,” he said.

The Amherstburg Ribfest takes about 25-30 volunteers to pull off, he added. Sponsors help cover costs of the event, he added.

“A big thank you to the community for supporting this event year-after-year,” he added.
