Art by the River returning to Fort Malden August 29-30

The 59th annual Art by the River returns to the grounds of Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada Aug. 29-30.

Art by the River is an end of summer tradition in its 59th year. 

Held at Fort Malden National Historic Site since 1967, it started as a centennial project with a few artists showcasing their paintings of local scenery with approximately 1,500 people viewing their work in one day.

Art by the River has grown through the years to a two-day event featuring over 175 artists, artisans and food vendors with an attendance of approximately 10,000. 

It features entertainment, a Kid’s Fun Zone with free activities for children and there is a convenient ATM on the premises for cash purchases.

Again this year, you can pay digitally at the gate for your admission and there will be shuttle cars to take you to Fort Malden National Historic Site from a parking lot at 179 Victoria St. S. (the senior centre), compliments of Amherstburg GMC. Sorry, but these shuttles cannot accommodate children’s car seats. 

This year, additional parking has also been secured at 125 Sandwich St. S. (across from the old high school), a much needed and wanted addition.

The hosts, The Gibson Gallery, hope to see you August 29-30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Art by the River at 100 Laird Ave. in  Amherstburg, on the beautiful banks of the Detroit River at Fort Malden National Historic Site.
