Sometimes the journey is more important than the final destination.
For artist Tatyanna, who just had her first ever exhibit, it means that the process of creation is paramount to the final product.
“I really leave room for change in the process. I never know where it’s going to end up and I love that,” she said at her wrap-up reception at Amherstburg’s Gibson Gallery last Sunday afternoon.
In speaking candidly with the River Town Times, she said that when she begins an oil on canvas piece, admittingly she does not know where she is headed and what it will look like once complete.
More often than not, she will start a painting and simply not finish it. Tatyanna said she will not paint over paint on a canvas because although she wants consistency in her style, she also thrives for something different every time.
Basically self-taught, she has been creating art since she was a toddler and really looking forward to where the journey will take her.
“I’ve been an artist as long as I can remember. My mom says I started when I was three,” she said during the June 14 closing reception.
Oil on canvas is her preferred medium and her show at the Gibson Gallery included a couple of unusually colourful pieces done in the last couple of years.
Tatyanna says that while oil on canvas is what she likes to do the best, she has worked with charcoal, graphite and graphics.
“I am so grateful and happy for the way it turned out,” she said of her first solo exhibit.
Up next at the local art gallery is a group exhibit by Association of Representational Artists through painting, drawings and mixed media.
It began on Tuesday and runs until July 5. The Gibson Gallery’s biggest event all year, Art by the River will be held Aug. 29-30.
