Family displaced after McBride Ave. fire, damage estimated at $600k

A McBride Ave. fire June 4 caused about $600,000 damage and displaced a local family, says Amherstburg fire chief Michael Mio.

A family of four has been displaced after a fire at their McBride Ave. home.

The Amherstburg Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of McBride Ave. June 4 at approximately 2:30 p.m. 

The damage estimated is $600,000, the fire department states.

According to Amherstburg fire chief Michael Mio, firefighters were met upon arrival with heavy smoke coming from a two-storey residential home and quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack. 

“Crews not only battled significant fire conditions but also faced extremely warm temperatures during one of the first hot days of the summer,” Mio stated. “The two-story home sustained heavy structural damage as a result of the fire.”  Several firefighters experienced heat-related injuries while operating at the scene, Mio reported, and one firefighter sustained a minor injury.   According to the chief, the fire has been deemed accidental and originated in a mechanical room. The damage extended into the second floor, he added.
