Football training camp underway at North Star High School

The North Star High School football team is working hard during training camp. The camp was held last week at the school and is continuing this week.

A sign the summer is starting to wind down is when the football pads come out.

That is what has been happening at local high schools, with North Star High School being no different. Under the watchful eyes of new head coach Emmitt Rosati and his staff, members of the incoming Wolves football team were getting ready for the incoming season.

“It’s been really good so far,” said Rosati. “There has been a lot of excitement. The guys are super focused and working hard to get better. It’s been great.”

Conditioning varies from player to player, but Rosati said one of the goals is to get the players into shape and ready for the football season. Teaching them basic football skills is another thing they are working on in the summer training camp.

“They are at very different levels of conditioning. We are building up the conditioning and working on the fundamentals,” said Rosati.

Numbers have varied each day due to family vacations and other commitments the players have, but many of the days during the first week of the two-week camp saw over 20 players attend.

“It’s pretty good for the summer,” said Rosati.

Thus far, Rosati believes it is an “intermediate” level football team as there are a lot of Grade 10 and 11 players either returning from last year or trying out for the team. Those numbers could change once school resumes Sept. 8, but many Grade 12 players from last year’s team that made the WECSSAA Tier 2 championship game have since graduated.

“I know that we lost a lot of Grade 12’s that were leaders last year,” said Rosati. “The returning players have an opportunity to step up this year.”

Rosati added he and other coaches are seeing progress.

“I’m happy with what I’m seeing so far,” said Rosati. “We have some good athletes who are coachable and willing to learn.”

While the schedule for the 2027 WECSSAA football schedule has not been finalized yet, the season is expected to open the second week of school.

Summer training camp is continuing this week behind the school from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. daily.
