Four impaired driving arrests made - one of them in Amherstburg

The Windsor Police Service has charged four people with impaired driving following separate incidents over the weekend, one of which was in Amherstburg. 


On June 5, shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers located a driver unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle at the intersection of Ouellette Ave. and Giles Blvd. When attempts to wake the driver failed, an officer broke the window and physically roused the driver awake to ensure their safety. According to police, the driver appeared disoriented, with dilated pupils and slurred speech. A 42-year-old man was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle. 


On June 7, at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a collision in the 400 block of Ouellette Ave. Through investigation, officers learned that a person driving an e-bike had collided with a parked vehicle. When officers spoke with the driver, police allege they observed signs of impairment. He was arrested and transported to headquarters. A 56-year-old man was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg. 


Later that day, shortly after 6 p.m. officers observed a vehicle allegedly swerve into oncoming traffic in the 400 block of Simcoe St. in Amherstburg. A traffic stop was initiated, and officers allege the driver showed signs of impairment. He was arrested without incident. A 63-year-old man was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg. 


Approximately five hours later, officers located a vehicle parked in an alleyway behind a business in the 1800 block of Tecumseh Road East. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle allegedly fled. Officers soon located and arrested the suspect in the 1400 block of Lens Ave. A 61-year-old man was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg, and flight from a peace officer.
