Joel and Tonya Charron hoped to be in their renovated home by now but it is an understatement to say things haven’t gone according to plan.

After several months out of the home and the bulk of what they saved spent, they still can’t live in their home and are exploring legal avenues in relation to their previous contractor. They have to live at Joel’s mother’s home for the time being.

Tonya said their son has autism and it was difficult for him as their home is his safe space.

A GoFundMe page, entitled “Help Bring Our Family Home,” has been set up and they are hoping for as much as they can get. It has raised over $2,000 so far and they are hoping for at least $50,000 so they can get their home restored to the point where they can move back in.

Joel said it is tough to ask for help.

“We’re both very proud people.”

Joel added things are progressing with the new contractor but the family needs help with funds to help pay them and keep the work going.

“We’re grateful to those for wanting to help our family,” he said. “I’ve been part of the community for over 40 years. I’ve coached in the community for 16 years.”

The renovations include the addition, finishing their basement, a complete upgrade to the existing house and garage. Support has been coming in as Ace Roofing has offered to help with materials and Jarrod Manherz of Timberwolf Lumber has also provided some assistance, Joel added.

In addition people who want to make donations to the GoFundMe page, in-kind services and materials are also welcome. People can contact Tonya at tonya21ca@yahoo.ca.

“We just want to go home,” he said.
