Mid-Summer Dinner helps fundraiser for two local service groups

People sit at picnic tables in an open pavilion while a small live band plays in the background on a sunny day.
The Mid-Summer Dinner, held last Thursday evening at G.L. Heritage Brewing Co., had over 100 people attend and saw proceeds go to Bryerswood Youth Camp and the Rotary Club of Amherstburg.

Over 100 guests attended the Mid-Summer Dinner fundraiser last week in support of two area service organizations.

Proceeds from the July 23 event, held at G.L. Heritage Brewing Co., went to the Bryerswood Youth Camp Optimist Club (BYCOC) and the Rotary Club of Amherstburg. Food was provided by Frate Steet Food while Don McArthur, David Jones and Matt Bondy provided the entertainment.

“It’s like the stars aligned for this kind of event,” said BYCOC vice president Cathy Robertson, also mentioning the weather was perfect for the event.

A final fundraising total was not available as of press time.

Sponsors were thanked, including Libro Credit Union, the Waterfront Ice Cream Parlour, The Point Wellness Spa, Evelyn’s Candy House, White Woods, WFCU, the Garage Gym and Wigle’s Meats.

“Bryerswood is using its portion (of the proceeds) to renovate the activity centre, which is an important building at the camp site,” said Robertson.

Robertson added Bryerswood wants to make the activity centre usable all-year round. She said the BYCOC appreciates the support of people in and around Amherstburg.

“This really means a lot,” she said of last Thursday evening’s turnout. “We can’t do this without the community’s support.”

Rotary Club of Amherstburg president Dan Monk said their share of the proceeds will go towards their AED project. The club is looking to put automated external defibrillators in more public parks around Amherstburg.

“We’re excited. We have a great partnership with Bryerswood. This has been a great night for everyone,” said Monk.
