A pair of local artists have their work on exhibit at The Gibson Gallery.“Moments in Time,” a combined exhibit of the works of Sandra Menard and Lynda Todon, is featured through May 18. It is all oil paintings of various scenes from around the area and on their and their families’ travels.

Menard said she had an exhibit at the Gibson Gallery seven years ago and didn’t think she would have another, but kept painting and is back. A retired teacher, Menard started painting when she was 20-years-old but stopped to focus on career and family. When she moved to her apartment in Amherstburg approximately 11-years-ago, she resumed painting and is part of her building’s art group.

Todon, also a retired teacher, said she started painting in the late 1970s and early 1980s but also stopped to focus on work and family. A project at her church two years ago got her back into painting and she re-established a studio and now paints scenes from her travels and the travels of others as well as from her garden,  nature and animals.

“She suggested we do a show together,” said Menard. “We each brought 25 paintings and here we are.”

Todon stated she creates art with her grandchildren and put them up around the house to “admire” them. Now, her own art is up at the gallery and the general public is able to admire it.

“I’ve sold five already,” said Todon.

Menard added she is hopeful of selling some of her artwork as well.

The Gibson Gallery’s current hours are Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. The gallery is located at 140 Richmond St. in Amherstburg.
