A long-awaited playground is officially open in Malden Centre.
A ribbon cutting was held last Tuesday morning (May 19) at Malden Centre Park with town council members, administration, those who created the park and, appropriately enough, local families.
Mayor Michael Prue said a lot of work went into creating the new playground from consultations to the actual construction of what Prue called “a fully-accessible baseball park.”
“Everyone has done a great job,” said Prue. “This is incredible. Having accessible park space in Malden Centre is essential to supporting active families and a connected community. This new playground provides a welcoming place for residents to gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors close to home.”
The mayor thanked New World Park Solutions for its work in creating the new playground and the community for helping to make it happen. There is a need, he added, “just to have fun.”
“This is a wonderful new playground,” he added.
Mark Jones, the regional director with New World Park Solutions, said he and his team were involved with the design and installation of the new playground at Malden Centre Park.

“This was a fun one,” he said.
The new playground features a rubberized surface similar to the playground at Toddy Jones Park, which has a “spongy” texture when walking on it. Jones highlighted the large slide, which is wide enough for a child and their caregiver.
“There’s something for everyone,” said Jones. “When it’s all done and you see kids playing on it, it’s greatly rewarding.”
