A new pharmacy has opened in Amherstburg with the eventual plan to have doctors and a walk-in clinic on site.
The SV Care Pharmacy has opened at 38 Victoria St. S. and is owned and operated by Sri Etikala and his wife and business partner Vedha. They have a goal of addressing health care needs in Amherstburg, but in Leamington as well where they are working on a similar endeavor.
Sri said Amherstburg has been open to the ideas they are working on.
“This community is very receptive,” he said. “I thank them for the support I am receiving.”
The pharmacy is up front near the main entrance with a common seating area for both the pharmacy and future clinic. There is also a reception area up front. There are ten rooms to accommodate physicians with a female doctor expected to start there in late June with at least two more interested in joining, Sri added.
Sri also envisions an urgent care facility at the site, with a procedure room on site for suture removal, IUD insertions, stitches and more minor procedures. Goals also include bringing in allied healthcare providers such as chiropractors, dieticians among others.
The SV Care Medical and Walk-In Clinic is planned to be a “one-stop shop” and a “health hub.”
“They’ll come here and get everything,” he said.
The building was purchased last September with work beginning in December. Sri said they plan on incorporating as much technology as possible, with state-of-the-art equipment and the ability to register at the walk-in clinic online from home and to receive a notification when the doctor would be ready to see the patient.
The goal is to have a seven day per week walk-in clinic and a family practice six days per week. Hours would depend on demand but Sri noted that everything depends on the support of the community and how many doctors they can secure.
Both Sri and Vedha have medical backgrounds, specifically in the pharmaceutical field.
“I’m a pharmacist. This is my 30th year as a pharmacist,” he said, noting he has managed Shoppers Drug Mart locations and the pharmacy at the Leamington Walmart.
“My wife owns a few pharmacies in Windsor.”
“We both are pharmacists,” added Vedha.
The idea, he added, is to bring healthcare to those unattached currently to a doctor or those who want shorter wait times to see a physician.
Sri said they like the community aspect of Amherstburg and even want to move to the community to live. They like the location as it has ample parking yet is in a quieter area of the town.
