Pins and medals awarded as part of Legion Week

As part of Legion Week, Royal Canadian Legion Fort Malden Br. 157 handed out its anniversary pins and medals for those deserving members who have earned milestones for years of membership.


Earning a pin for five years as an affiliate voting member was Louis Robidoux.


Associate members recognized for their five-year milestones were Dilys Bertrand, Margeret Carroll, Patricia Ford, Annette Knight, Dave Tales, Karen Tales, and Robert Valade.


The Associate member with ten years was Jenna Bondy while Anne Fox was recognized for 15 years. The late James Mayer, represented by his daughter Linda, and Jean Mayer were Associate members recognized for 30 years.

Honoured for 50 years as an Associate member was Jim Vance.

Ordinary members recognized for their five-year anniversaries were Douglas Pflug, Michelle Pflug and Jim Shean. Ordinary member James Vermeulen was recognized for 15 years.

Ward Yorke was recognized for 50 years of Legion membership. He is an ordinary member and was recognized as part of Legion Week.

Ordinary member Edmond Ouellette received a 40-year award. Ward Yorke was recognized for 50 years while Robert Dudley was honoured for 55 years.


Not all award winners were on hand at the ceremony but the awards will be presented at a later date.

Capt. Ernie Gazdig CD, membership chair and a member of the Legion Br. 157 executive, told the crowd at the Sept. 20 ceremony that by attending the Legion, they are showing their support for the Amherstburg branch. 


Legion Week is geared to let communities know more about their local branches and what they do to help both veterans and the community.


“We need you to be our ambassadors in the community,” Gazdig told the crowd.
