Rotary Club of Amherstburg swears in its executive for 2026-27 year

The Rotary Club of Amherstburg has its executive for the 2026-27 Rotary year.

Now, the club just needs a permanent home.

Dan Monk will return as the Rotary Club of Amherstburg’s president, a position he held this past year as well. Being sworn in as members of the executive were Brianne McLaren-Ross and Sally Holden following a dinner July 8 at Wolfhead Distillery.

Jeremy Warnock and Susanne Rainhard remain as treasurer and secretary respectively but did not have to be sworn in as they are in mid-term.

“My goal in being the president was to build the foundation and grow the membership, which we’ve done,” reported Monk. 

The first year of his Rotary presidency went well, he said, noting membership has grown significantly dating back to when Warnock was president.

“The club has almost doubled in the last year-and-a-half,” said Monk. “We’re hoping to do it again in the next year-and-a-half.”

The Rotary Club is working on a project to help put Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in at least three local parks and Monk hopes to have that concluded by the end of the year.

The club also benefits from the July 23 “Mid-Summer Dinner” at G.L. Heritage Brewing Co., as a portion of the proceeds will go to the Rotary Club. Bryerswood Youth Camp will also receive funding and people can get more information or purchase tickets at www.bryerswood.com/events. 

“We’re looking forward to a great year,” said Monk.

The local service club had moved its meetings into the Fort Fun Centre but the latter’s recent closure has caused the Rotary Club to once again search for a new location. They have found a temporary home but are seeking something permanent.

Assistant District Governor Mary Lou Amlin, a member of the Rotary Club of LaSalle Centennial, presided over the induction ceremony. She said it marks the beginning of a new Rotary year, filled with service and opportunities.

“The role of a president is both an honour and a responsibility,” she told Monk.

Amlin told the three people inducted that “the three of you have the trust and honour of your club.”
