Summer “Haunted Heritage Tours” includes Amherstburg content

The Purple Theatre Company presented its “Wicked Wednesday Haunted Heritage Tour” July 29 at the Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village. The next tour is Aug. 19.

The “Wicked Wednesdays” Summer Haunted Heritage Tours have returned to the Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village (CTMHV).


Monthly tours of the village have occurred since May with weekly tours returning in September. Two tours occurred in July, including last Wednesday (July 29), with a special Sunday tour earlier in the month. The tours are presented by the Purple Theatre Company.


Roughly 46 people were guided through the village by actor Mary Grace Weir, who told stories of the various cottages as well as telling other ghost stories from around the region. 


In addition to Weir’s storytelling, there were vignettes acted out by other actors with the Purple Theatre telling of ghost stories in the village. Weir also mentioned ghost stories involving Amherstburg sites, including the Gordon House and the Park House Museum.


Actors from the theatre company also included Amherstburg resident Rebecca S. Mickle, Shayla Hudson, Heath Camlis, Brandon Hooker and Benjamin Mickle.

Weir said they were pleased with the size of the crowd at the July 31 walking tour through the village.


“We sold out,” she said.


Crowds have been growing throughout, Weir added, with just over a dozen in May, about 20 in June and roughly 30 for the first performance in July.


Rebecca Mickle added the July 31 show had two people from Wasaga Beach attend.


The final “Wicked Wednesday” Haunted Heritage Tour of the summer will be Aug. 19 at 8:30 p.m., before they become weekly less than month later.


Weir added the Purple Theatre Company will also be taking part in the Amherstburg Uncommon Festival Sept. 18-20.


Mickle also pointed out the tours at Heritage Village resume weekly in September. 


“We start our tours again Sept. 9, every Wednesday except for Sept 30. We’re skipping that day and we’ll be doing it on Oct 1 instead with two back to back tours Oct. 28.”
