The Art of Flight all-bird exhibit at the O will raise finds for the Holday Beach Migration Observatory (HBMO).

The Missing  O Restaurant in Amherstburg will host “The Art of Flight” Oct. 24, an art exhibit and fundraiser.

Members of the Local Art Collective, based in Amherstburg, will showcase all new original art inspired by local birds. A portion of proceeds from art sales will benefit the Holiday Beach Migration Observatory (HBMO).

The event begins at 3 p.m. Opening remarks will be delivered by artists and the members of the HBMO. The Local Art Collective will reveal avian artwork created for the show. This will be followed by an opportunity to meet the artists. At 4 p.m. bird trivia will be led by ornithologists at University of Windsor.

In celebration of “The Art of Flight” event, the Missing O will be serving special flights of wine, beer, and appetizers, as well as creating a signature drink.

This event is the brainchild of the artists in the Local Art Collective. Since many of the artists are bird lovers, and the Windsor-Essex area is known for its avian biodiversity and bird migration routes, a bird-themed exhibit seemed like a natural fit. Rather than make it strictly about art, however, the artists were eager to organize an event that would also benefit local bird conservation.

They decided to create an event that would raise funds for the Holiday Beach Migration Observatory. The migration observatory is non-profit organization that has been monitoring migrating birds at Holiday Beach Conservation Area since 1974. It is run by a dedicated group of volunteers and relies on grant applications and donations to maintain their operations.

The artists will donate 25% of all art sold to the HBMO. There will also be avian art prints for sale, as well as bird-themed gumball and vending machine prizes designed by the artists. The Missing O will also donate a portion of sales of themed food and drinks to the HBMO.

The event is family friendly and free to attend. The original art will be on display at the Missing O until mid-November.
