A fundraiser offered through the Ford Motor Co. returned to Amherstburg over the weekend with the House Youth Centre benefitting.
“Drive for your Community” was held last Saturday (June 13) at Joe Meloche Ford with people who took a test drive helping raise money for the local youth centre. Every test drive, or those who filled out the form, led to a $30 donation for The House.
“We had a pretty good day,” said program director Morghan Shearon.
Board member Amy Bailey agreed.
“We’ve had a decent amount of people show their support,” said Bailey.
A final total was not available as of press time, but by around 1 p.m., The House had raised in the neighbourhood of $3,000. Ford Motor Co. donates to a maximum of $6,000 under the program.
Bailey said The House reached out to Joe Meloche Ford when they were fundraising for Amherstburg’s Coldest Night of the Year. That’s when it was learned the “Drive for your Community” event was returning and that The House was going to be the first recipient of funding when the program returned.
Funds raised will help the general operation of The House Youth Centre, which is located within the Amherstburg Community Hub at 320 Richmond St.
The House’s annual golf tournament returns to Sutton Creek Golf Club in McGregor July 11 with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Shearon said that includes 18 holes, a lunch at the turn, drinks at the turn compliments of G.L. Heritage Brewing Co., and a steak dinner.
Bailey said they want to reach the 144 maximum tournaments are allowed, adding they usually get 120-130 golfers. Shearon added they have close to 70 signed up now.
Cost is $175 per player. A link to sign up can be found on The House’s Facebook and Instagram pages. The House’s programming is on a summer break except for their counselling services, which remain every Thursday for ages 12-25 from 2-6 p.m.
