U12 Cardinals Rep team wrapping up their baseball season

The Amherstburg Cardinals U12 Rep baseball team played the LaSalle Titans Green U12 team Aug. 25 at Malden Centre Park with LaSalle picking up the victory.

The Amherstburg Cardinals U12 Rep baseball team grew this season and coaches were happy with their effort as the season wound down last week.

The U12’s were in action last Tuesday night and, despite a loss to the visiting LaSalle Titans U12 team, the coaches were still happy with the effort.

Cardinals head coach Andrew Brush said the Aug. 25 game at Malden Centre Park followed a similar pattern to other games, such as the opponent having a big inning due to mistakes made by the Amherstburg team.

“We made a few errors and had a few walks,” said Brush.

LaSalle was able to get key runs and key times and pulled away for the victory. Amherstburg was able to claw back into the game, as they were down ten runs at one point, but made a game of it late. Brush credited his team for fighting back and working hard to get back in the game.

“The kids were hungry tonight,” said Brush, after the game. “We had our chances at the end.”

The U12 team played the U11 Rep Cardinals to wrap up the season last Friday night at Malden Centre Park.

The players developed from where they were at the beginning of the season, Brush added. While they were unsure of what to do in certain situations early on, they learned what to do to where Brush said it was “second nature” for them.

“They are doing the right things,” he said.

Brush said they are looking for improvement next year in the team and a step forward. They had six wins this season, which was more than last year, he continued.

“For us, it’s a success and something to build on going forward,” said Brush.
