Weekend quake rattles Amherstburg

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is reporting a magnitude 2.9 earthquake about seven kilometers SSE of Amherstburg about 10:32 a.m. last Sunday (April 26). 


Some residents in Amherstburg and surrounding municipalities report hearing a bang and feeling a rumble, though others did not feel anything.


Earthquakes Canada says it was a 3.0 magnitude and 11 km southeast of Amherstburg. 


The depth was about five kilometres, Canadian officials say.


“There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected,” Earthquakes Canada’s website stated.
