North Star’s Grayson Wilson (18) heads upfield for a big gain last Friday night against Brennan. Wilson scored his first WECSSAA touchdown in the 41-0 Wolves victory.

The North Star Wolves took to the field for their second game last Friday night and the result was identical to their first game.

The Wolves’ opponents were the Brennan Cardinals and, just like the previous week’s game against Catholic Central, the final score ended up 41-0 for North Star.

A solid running attack on the Wolves’ opening drive ended up with the first North Star touchdown. The first quarter drive was capped with a Ryan Reid quarterback sneak from two yards out.

The Wolves scored twice more in the second quarter with Fevreau scoring on a 22-yard run and later in the quarter on a 61-yard sprint to the end zone. North Star took a 21-0 lead into the half.

Two more touchdowns were scored by North Star in the third quarter. After taking advantage of a miscue on an attempted Brennan punt, Fevreau scored shortly thereafter from two yards out.

Reid scored his second touchdown of the evening later in the third quarter on a one-yard touchdown run.

Grade 9 student Grayson Wilson scored his first WECSSAA touchdown in the fourth quarter when he scored on a two-yard run.

“I thought it was a pretty good game,” said Reid. “I thought we played good as a team, for sure.”

Reid said the key to Friday night’s victory was the fact the Wolves showed up to play and compete.

“Everyone came ready to play,” said Reid.

Reid added the Wolves know they have to come ready for games and to put in the work. There are a lot of games left on the WECSSAA schedule and North Star has to be ready for all of them, he said.

“It’s a good start, but there’s much more to come,” he said.

As for his two touchdowns, Reid credited his offensive line.

“My line helped me out,” he said. “I can definitely trust those guys, that’s for sure.”

Coach Joel Charron said the effort and execution was “a million times better” than the first game. He credited assistant coach/defensive co-ordinator Rusty Parsons for the second straight shutout.

“Coach Rusty has the boys buzzing on defense,” said Charron. “It’s tough to run on us and I love that.”

The Wolves got off to a good start thanks to a strong line and a good running game, he added. He pointed out Wilson’s first touchdown and the work he puts in at practice.

“That’s why I coach, to see stuff like this,” he said.

The Wolves’ next game is back at the Libro Centre this Friday (Oct. 3) at 5 p.m. The opponent will be the Massey Mustangs, with the Mustangs coming to Amherstburg with an 0-2 record.
