A yoga and pilates class offered at a local craft brewery paid dividends for an area campground.

The Karma Sweat & Surrender class was held at G.L. Heritage Brewing Co. June 6 in partnership with G.L. Heritage and The Yoga Effect. The benefits from that event were realized last Wednesday (June 10) with a $415 cheque presentation to the Bryerswood Youth Camp.

Jen Desjardins-Grondin, co-owner of G.L. Heritage Brewing Co., said the idea originated with Tanya Laliberte, owner of The Yoga Effect. Participants were able to donate what they wanted with all proceeds going to the Bryerswood Youth Camp.

“We wanted to give back to the community,” added Laliberte. “If you do something nice for the community, it comes back to you.”

Laliberte said the Karma Sweat & Surrender class was held on a fitting day, as June 6 was International Fitness Day.

Roughly 30 participants took part, with Desjardins-Grondin adding that Bryerswood volunteers were also on hand helping children build birdhouses.

Cathy Robertson, vice president of the Bryerswood Youth Camp Optimist Club, pointed out the money will be put to good use.

“It’s for renovations to the activity centre,” said Robertson. “We are so grateful for this donation. The partnerships with the community means so much to us.”

G.L. Heritage Brewing Co. and The Yoga Effect are teaming up again on a lululemon x The Shred Effect event June 27 from 1-3. If interested, people can visit the Yoga Effect’s Facebook page to register.

Bryerswood Youth Camp teams with G.L. Heritage Brewing Co. July 23 for a fundraiser. The Mid-Summer Dinner returns as a fundraiser for improvements to the activity centre with that running from 4:30-9 p.m. FRATE Street Food will cater and Don McArthur will perform music that evening. There will also be a silent auction. More information, including how to purchase tickets, is available at www.bryerswood.com. Tickets are $45-$50, depending on meal chosen, with general admission and a drink ticket being $25.
