“Backpacks for Bright Futures” event held at Amherstburg Community Services

ACS held its “Backpack for Bright Futures” barbecue and school supply giveaway Aug. 8 at their location at 320 Richmond St.

Amherstburg Community Services (ACS) recently hosted its Backpack for Bright Futures event through the P2P Neighbourhoods Program Aug. 8, bringing local families together for a fun day of food, entertainment and back-to-school support.

More than 110 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to local children to help them get ready for the upcoming school year. Families also enjoyed a BBQ featuring hot dogs, chips and freezees, along with face painting, balloon creations, live interactive music, caricature drawings and a visit from the Amherstburg Fire Department.

The event was made possible through the P2P Neighbourhoods Program, funded by the City of Windsor and the County of Essex, along with the generous support of local businesses, organizations, performers and volunteers.

ACS also extends its sincere appreciation to the volunteers who helped set up, run the event to support families and clean up after the event.

“Backpacks for Bright Futures is a great example of what the P2P Neighbourhoods Program is all about- bringing people together, building connections and responding to the needs of our neighbourhood. We are incredibly grateful to the businesses, organizations and volunteers who came together to make this event such a success for Amherstburg families”, said Kathy DiBartolomeo, executive director of ACS.

The P2P Neighbourhoods Program continues to support initiatives that strengthen neighbourhood connections, build community and foster a sense of belonging throughout Amherstburg.
