Community Group 2025 recap - The Gibson Gallery

Gibson Gallery logo

The Fort Malden Guild of Arts and Crafts was founded in 1945 to encourage and foster cultural development in the fine and applied arts. The Guild first met at Fort Malden.

In 1965, the Michigan Central Railway Station, 140 Richmond St., was purchased and renovated to become an art gallery. Since that time, we have operated as The Gibson Gallery.

The Gibson Gallery has a very busy and successful 2025 and are proud of what we offered the citizens of Amherstburg and visiting tourists. Our 2025 exhibits were very popular and well attended.

New this year, the Mother’s Day Tea and the paranormal events were both sold out!  A wide variety of children’s and adult classes were also offered.

The highlight of the year was our 58th annual Art by the River held in late August.   This art show, held on the grounds of Fort Malden, had 175 vendors and the attendance exceeded 10,000!

We wrapped up 2025 with our traditional Holiday Artisan Shop.  Over 50 artists participated this year, providing a wide variety of unique gifts.

2026 promises to be another busy and exciting year for the Gibson Gallery.  While the Gallery is closed for January and February, the Marsh Collection will be using the space to host their exhibit, “Small Town, Big Industry,” from January 24 to February 22. This exhibit will tell the story of Brunner Mond, Allied Chemical, and General Chemical.  See our website or contact the Marsh Collection for further details.

The Gallery will reopen with the member’s exhibit February 26, followed by a high school art show March 19. Please check our website for all 2026 exhibits (gibsonartgallery.com).

Many special events are in the final planning stages to help us celebrate our Michigan Central Railway Building’s 130th birthday this year. Stay tuned for more details, including the grand opening of our new Caboose Museum Exhibit, “Transportation in Amherstburg, 1800-2000.” And don’t miss the 59th annual Art by the River, August 29-30.

The 2025 Board of Directors thanks all of our members, volunteers, patrons, corporate sponsors, exhibitors, and the citizens of Amherstburg and Essex County for your continued support over the past 56 years. Without your assistance we could not keep the doors of the Gallery open!
