Grand opening held for SV Medical & Walk-in Clinic and Pharmacy

The grand opening for a new pharmacy, walk-in clinic and medical practice was held over the weekend.
SV Medical & Walk-in Clinic and the adjoining SV Care Pharmacy was where the official opening took place and featured not only members of Amherstburg town council but MP’s from the area as well. Mayor Michael Prue and Deputy Mayor Chris Gibb were joined by Essex MP Chris Lewis and Windsor West MP Harb Gill at the opening with Lewis also extending greetings from Essex MPP Anthony Leardi, with the latter having to be in Montreal that day.
The clinic is owned by pharmacists Sri and Vedha Etikala with there being a female doctor working out of the clinic with a pediatrician and endocrinologist expected soon. Sri said they are working to have more doctors by year’s end.
“The community has been awesome,” said Sri. “They come here just to say thank you.”
The clinic has been welcoming about 35-40 people per day, he said.
Sri added the goal is to have it as a “one-stop shop” where people can get treated and get their prescriptions at the same time.
Prue extended the town’s “warmest congratulations” on the opening and called it an exciting occasion. He said the Etikalas have a long medial history and bring their experience to Amherstburg.
“They are not newbies,” said Prue. “They are people who know what they are doing.”
Prue added they are dedicated to the municipalities they go into.
“What is especially inspiring is they are very community oriented,” said Prue.
Recalling a large turnout at a town council meeting last year regarding doctor shortages, Prue said the town lost a physician at that time and that is a big deal to a town the size of Amherstburg. That physician has been replaced and clinics like SV Medical & Walk-In Clinic is a great thing for Amherstburg.
“Amherstburg is the place to come to and the place to be,” he said. “We thank you for choosing us, for choosing the people of Amherstburg.
Gibb was also thankful the clinic has been opened in town.
“We always knew this is something needed in Amherstburg,” he said. “The people told us we need more family physicians and walk-in clinics.”
Gibb added he was happy to see the family invest in Amherstburg and bring a much-needed service.
Lewis also thanked the Etikala family for opening the new medical clinic and pharmacy in Amherstburg. He said he was impressed by the facility, including the building and even the amount of parking spots.
“What a great news story,” said Lewis.
Lewis said the new clinic will make a positive impact for residents in Amherstburg and surrounding areas.
“You are going to change people’s lives,” Lewis told the clinic’s owners and staff.
Gill added it shows hard work pays off in Canada. He added Canada opens its doors to immigrants and they “make the best of what Canada has to offer.” The retired police officer added people in this area appreciate hard work and respect others. Gill stated the hard work of the Etikala family has allowed them to bring such amenities to the community.
“We welcome you to our community,” said Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce (ACOC) general manager Anne Creery.
Creery said the clinic and pharmacy are some of the newest ACOC members. She added the ACOC is being recognized for its rapid growth and that is because the business community is getting together to support one another.
Rukshini Ponniah-Goulin, executive director with the Downtown Mission in Windsor, said she has known the Etikala family for a number of years and they are known for helping the communities they are in.
“This is a family that does so many things for our community,” said Ponniah-Goulin.
Ponniah-Goulin added she lives in Amherstburg and find it to be a great community to live in.
“This is such a fabulous and welcoming community,” she said, hoping the community continues to welcome the clinic.
