Fiction, non-fiction, gardening, cooking, mystery – books on everything and anything were available this past weekend at G.L. Heritage Brewing Co.

It was the second annual “Books and Brews” sale with all proceeds going to the Marsh Historical Collection.

“A lot of people came out last time and it’s a great partnership with G.L. Heritage. We are looking to do this again,” said Marsh Collection collections co-ordinator Meg Reiner.

The event, which was a big hit last year, once again offered up hundreds of titles and for Amherstburg’s Marija Argoselo, a chance to get several titles that she knew her daughter would like.

“I got books for my daughter on finance and business. She always wants to better herself.”

“Books and Brews” is a fundraiser with all money going to the historical organization. There were no price tags on the secondhand books and curious readers were asked to make a donation.

Reiner not only appreciates the local brewery who hosted the book sale but the many residents who donated books.

“There are all kind of genres here, not just history,” she said.

The Marsh Historical Collection was founded in 1984 to collect, preserve, and encourage research into the heritage of Amherstburg and the lower Detroit River district.

Among the treasures that Reiner had on display Sunday was 16-month 1996 calendar with drawings done by students of the former Amherstburg high school.

There was live musical entertainment at “Books and Brews” on the weekend as Lauren Victoria performed Saturday and Sunday afternoon Bethany D’Alimonte was on the stage.

The Marsh Historical Collection is located at 80 Richmond St. For more information, call 519-736-9191 or visit www.marshcollection.org.
