Slingerland, Jan "John"

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side October 26, 2026. Husband of Donna (nee Levis), Father of Wim (Tracey), Kenneth and Justin (Chantelle). Grandfather to 9 grandchildren; Trevor, Nikki, Brandon, Nathan, Taylor, Sydney, Madisen Gabriella and Landen and 4 great grandchildren; Kaden, Akkaidian, Octavia and Mathias. 

John was born in Neokoop – Netherlands on June 18, 1940, and came to Canada in 1952, landing in Essex, ON., Donna met him in 1963; they fell in love, married a year later, and began creating their beautiful family. John was so proud of his family and loved them very much. He cherished every moment he was able to spend together with all of them. 

He loved sports and watching Football and hockey and sitting there smoking his pipe or cigar. John enjoyed working with his hands and building things, but with his softer side enjoyed his tulips as well. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Visitation will be held at James H. Sutton Funeral Home (401 Sandwich St. S, Amherstburg), Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 2pm – 5pm and 7pm – 9pm. Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home, Monday, November 2, 2026, at 11:00am. At Johns' request, cremation will follow.
